EndoPrep5.1 - App Store

Endodontics involves more than shaping, cleaning and fillings canals. Dentists differ in the way they plan and view tackling a root canal treatment case. The EndoPrep App was developed with the hope of educating dentists to plan their root canal treatment cases.

The application contains a feature where you can upload images and measure angles and lengths on the image. The measurement tool is useful when you are discussing cases with your colleagues when you do not have radiographic software available. You can also use your camera to upload and measure images. The measurement tool is useful if you use chemically developed films and hence do not have digital software to measure radiographs.

About the Developers:
Details about Dr Omar Ikram BDS FRACDS MClinDent (Endo) MRD FICD FPFA
Omar Ikram is a Specialist in Endodontics, currently practising in Sydney, Australia. He completed his BDS degree in 1997, Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2005, Masters of Clinical Dentistry from King’s College London in 2009. He was inducted into the International College of Dentists in 2019. He is the director of Specialist Endo Crows Nest, Co-owner of Dental Specialists of Sydney and administrator for the Specialist Endo Crows Nest social media pages, an educational platform for dental surgeons.

Details about A/Prof William Ha BDSc GCRC PhD (Endo) DClinDent (Endo) FPFA
William Ha is the discipline head and associate professor of endodontics at the University of Sydney. He completed his dental degree in 2007, a research commercialisation certificate in 2012, his PhD in endodontics in 2017, and his DClinDent in endodontics in 2017. He was awarded a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy in 2019. He is also a registered app developer and has developed popular apps such as Dental Prescriber and BraceMate. He manages the social media page ‘EndoPrepApp’, an educational and humorous site for dentists and endodontists.

Also, there have been some corrections with the linked articles. 2.2 09/24/2021 Two main features have been added: The endodontic calculator (in-app purchase) and example essay questions (free, within the online study guide).

The endodontic calculator includes: a Gates Glidden tool, tubeshift tool, extruded master cone tool, final shape calculator, docked GP calculator, crown-down approach tool, 1 mm CEJ preparation tool, file length tool, AP risk tool, tooth survival calculator and a PA healing calculator. Information about these guides can be found within the app.

Example essay questions are for postgraduate endodontic students who want to practice essay questions for the exams.

This is in addition to the MB2 guide tool. The MB2 tool guide and the endodontic calculator are included within the in app purchase ('Endoprep Clinical') 2.1 08/19/2021 The latest version features an in-app purchase. The intent is for a single purchase to enable users to access advanced features in the app. Over time, new features will be added. Purchase of the original version will enable access to the newer features. As more features are added, the cost of the in-app purchase is planned to increase. Therefore, if you do not use features in the in-app purchase, keep the app as you should get access to more features at a later date.
The MB2 Guide:

The idea of this guide is to aid dentists in the location the second mesiobuccal canal in upper molar teeth (only). The guide uses a simple algorithm, which is commonly used by dentists in practice to locate this canal in upper molar teeth. For this guide to most effective the clinician needs to be able to take a clear image of the access cavity showing the canals. It is best used after preparation of the mesiobuccal 1 (MB1), distobuccal (DB) and palatal (PAL) canals. The user ideally could do this using a camera on an operating microscope or an intraoral camera.

Once the image has been taken then the circles of the MB guide should be COMPLETELY CENTERED over the fully prepared MB1, DB and PAL canals. The app will then indicate where the MB2 MIGHT BE located. 2.0 08/03/2021 The study guide has been expanded to include articles in the free and subscription-required sections. The list is now a comprehensive list and is a handy study guide for dental students, endodontic residents, as well anyone interested in having on-hand a list of useful literature.

Summaries by Dr Omar Ikram is a new section. In future, there will be more summaries listed here. 1.5 06/28/2021 An online study guide has been added. This includes two features, articles that require a paid journal subscription and articles that are freely available. Articles that require paid journal subscription can either be accessed from having a subscription to the journal, or by being a member of an association or institution that has access to the journal.
